Jigsaw Modules

 


Jigsaw modules are thus named because they are ready-to-go lesson chunks that faculty in any field can interpolate into a pre-existing course — like a puzzle piece.

For instance:

 

  • A computer science professor might integrate a module that leads her students to explore the ethics of artificial intelligence

  • A political science professor who would like to incorporate science fiction into her course on government systems could search the database for a module on stories of hegemonic surveillance societies

  • A biology professor considering interdisciplinary additions to his lessons could include a module featuring tales of genetically-altered beings

  • A mechanical engineering professor could add a module on stories of a futuristic society with advanced contraptions

 

Jigsaw modules function as templates that an instructor can adjust and rearrange per a course’s requirements and modality, and scale to cover one to three weeks.

Each module includes:

  • Literary narratives in various media

  • Critical texts

  • Recommendations for assignments

  • Suggestions for outcome assessment
