About the Ampersand
Literary studies and STEM are thought of as two different star systems, when in fact they are not only complementary but intertwined.
FIU’s Science & Fiction Lab aspires to unify the cosmic view, and become the univers[e/ity]'s nexus for interdisciplinary innovation.
To realize this, we introduce Fi-Sci Pattern Mapping. In essence this method is a perceptual model that spurs us to see things anew. But beyond that, our three-year implementation program shows evidence of the model’s extraordinary potential for (a) education and (b) science communication.

The Lab’s initiatives have been supported by FIU’s Wolfsonian Public Humanities Lab, Center for the Advancement of Teaching, Office of Micro-Credentials, and Honors College, as well as by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
