The Lab organizes a series of Faculty Fellowship Institutes to cultivate the development of ambulatory course components in the form of jigsaw modules some of which are micro-credentials.

Each institute comprises a cohort of 6-8 faculty members across disciplines, and involves three half-day seminars led by guest scholars, science fiction writers, and pedagogy experts; a workshop session; a concluding colloquium wherein fellows present the new components to their cohort.

The jigsaw modules populate the Lab’s digital library of teaching resources, and are available to every FIU faculty member.

  • Science Fiction Institutes

The outcome of each Science Fiction Institute is 5-6 jigsaw modules that are ready for adaptation and adoption.

The modules function as templates that each instructor may adjust and rearrange per their course’s requirements and modality, and scale to cover one to three weeks.

  • Fiction-Science Institutes

The outcome of each Fi-Sci Institute is 5-6 jigsaw modules—some of which are micro-credentials certified by the Office of Micro-Credentials.

The micro-credantial badges function both as extra-curricular, stand-alone credentials, and as self-contained course components that may be integrated into an existing course.
